ProSites Achieves Recognition on Inc. 5000 for the Sixth Time

We are SO excited to announce that we are recognized as one of America’s fastest-growing private companies for the 6th time in a row! Only 3% of companies on the list join us in this achievement, and for that we are extremely proud!

The list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment—its independent small businesses. Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees on the Inc. 5000.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by Inc. magazine for the sixth time,” stated Dave Rutan, CEO of ProSites. “Our company’s growth serves as a testament to our innovative technologies, our hardworking team of employees, our commitment to customer service, and the overall success that our clients achieve as a result of our solutions. We’re committed to continually improving and innovating and look forward to delivering on this promise.”

Making Your Dental Website Accessible

Over the past year, inquires have surfaced about the need for dental practice websites to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (AwDA).

In fact, in the fall of 2016 numerous dental and medical practices received letters from attorneys threatening legal action if the practice did not update their website to be AwDA compliant. Earlier this year, the American Dental Association issued a write-up about how to ensure your practice’s website meets the requirements of Accessibility for disabled persons.

Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act provides that “[n]o individual shall be discriminated against on the basis of disability in the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations of any place of public accommodation by any private entity who owns, leases (or leases to), or operates a place of public accommodation.”

A dental practice is considered a place of public accommodation, as is the access to information about the practice via its website. The World Wide Web Consortium provides guidelines for making a website accessible to those with disabilities, which include considerations such as:

  • The website should provide alternate descriptions of graphical elements
  • The website should properly format forms that require user input so fields can be identified by screen readers
  • Tables that contain data should include column and row headers
  • The website should embed closed captioning or another means to ensure deaf or hearing-impaired users can understand a website’s audio content
  • The website should have high-contrast between background and text colors

At ProSites, we recently launched a new Accessibility option for all of our dentists. This new feature is included with every website at no additional charge. It is optional to implement and designed to meet the requirements of Website Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.

When the feature is enabled, an Accessibility tab is visible on all web pages. If a user selects this tab, they will be taken to an accessible version of the website.  They also note that enabling the Accessibility Mode will not impact the standard operation or appearance of the website.

ProSites’ Pay It Forward Scholarship Recipient Announced!

After many applications were received, we’re thrilled to congratulate Kelly Nguyen for winning our first Pay It Forward Scholarship for dental students in the United States. The scholarship was created to thank dental students for their selfless dedication to their communities. Eligibility for the scholarship required a minimum of 50 hours volunteered, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation from their educational institution.

While there were many deserving applicants, the winner was Kelly Nguyen, a student at Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry. Kelly is a fourth-year student that has volunteered in California and Honduras, working with various under-privileged communities to promote oral health education.

“I would like to become a community dentist at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) after obtaining my DDS degree because I am interested in understanding the ways to reduce the barriers of access to oral healthcare for different groups of individuals,” states Kelly, “I hope to learn how to implement successful oral health outreach programs that cater to a variety of affected populations… who face barriers to access such as cultural/language barriers and educational barriers, geographical obstacles, and financial hurdles.”

Kelly is no stranger to hardship – she lost her mother to a brain aneurysm as an infant, and her father to cancer shortly before starting dental school. Kelly also spent some time in the hospital herself due a bad allergic reaction to medication. Yet throughout her hardship, she’s persevered in obtaining her degree, and will be graduating in 2018.
